SAAA Logo Founded in 1974, the San Antonio Astronomical Association is located in San Antonio, Texas, in the United States of America. Our members reside primarily in Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, and Medina counties near San Antonio. Our primary purpose is to provide our members and the public education, enjoyment, and entertainment through astronomy.

The SAAA meets usually on the second Friday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church of Alamo Heights , 6720 Broadway. Christ Lutheran Church is on the east side of Broadway next to Alamo Heights High School. Parking is in the lot on the south side of the church. Membership is open to all those interested in astromomy. All meetings are open to the public and free of charge.

The SAAA also offers free programs to public and private schools, scouts, libraries, and universities. Special astronomy programs are often scheduled with civic, handicapped, science, and nature organizations such as the Sierra Club, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts and with parks personnel at county, city, and state levels. For more information, contact our Public Outings Coordinator.

By joining the SAAA, you will have the opportunity to meet others who have common interests and have the opportunity to exchange ideas. Through our public programs, you will also get a chance to be involved in serving the public and to introduce others to the joys of astronomy.

To facilitate the SAAA's operations, we collect dues of $20.00 per year. The bulk of the dues cover publishing of our newsletter. The SAAA is recognized by the IRS as a non-profit educational organization. Therefore some of your dues and any donations you wish to make may be tax deductible.

Whether you are an armchair astronomer, an interested beginner, or a seasoned professional, we believe that you will find joining the SAAA to be a rewarding experience.

The SAAA has created partnerships with Fort Mckavett State Historical Site, near Menard, Garner State Park, Hill Country State Natural Area, Guadalupe River State Park, Blanco State Park, and Palmetto State Park, where we hold many private and public observing events and star parties.
